In the 1960’s Portland experienced explosive growth and attempted to put a cap on it. Interesting back then, a thousand times more relevant today, here is Portland’s legendary anti-tourism campaign and the results.

Also note how the sagging Portland of 1982 would have given anything to attract that growth back. Something to think about the next time you see 10,000 condos going up on one lot.

Escape is mainly programing for women, shows like Unsolved Mysteries and American Justice. It's HLN, with some movies and E/I programing.

The month of new Christmas videos caps off with, for the first time, a Portland PM Magazine episode.

Dad has stacks and stacks of these, so you will be seeing a lot more of them. Given how much they show of local scenery and culture circa the 1980's, they turned out to be a nostalgic gold mine. This is actually one of the most significant PM Mags in the entire run because it marks the first appearance of Teresa Richardson, who would replace Elaine Busby one month later and host the show up until one year before it ended in 1996.

There will be two kinds, and they will be marked: Partial PM Magazines and Complete PM Magazines. Sometimes Dad was selective with what he taped and sometimes he just let the VCR run. This is one of those times he did some snipping. This cut version runs a little over 11 minutes, but it looks like it was mostly caroling.

I haven't mined Dad's entire basement yet (it's going to take some time; he's a hoarder) and it's possible the other segments of PM Magazine that those Captain Carrot things came from are on different tapes I haven't found yet. Until I know for sure, I probably won't be putting Captain Carrot up in video form.
