Last Time: In the past, Licht transforms into a giant demon, asking Lumiere to kill him. Lumiere does, creating the legend of the first Wizard King. Secre uses the magic stones to seal Zagred away, but Zagred uses a spell to warp away. Secre then uses her magic to turn Lumiere into a statue, but the use of forbidden magic turns Secre into a bird herself, which is how she came across Asta. Back in the present, Lumiere and Secre join up with the others, where Lumiere and Licht have a reunion, before Licht unlocks his sword's true power. Together, Lumiere and Licht obliterate Zagred - but unfortunately, Zagred is able to recover from the damage. Asta realizes that he may be the only one who can truly defeat Zagred.

This Time: The battle closes in on it's climax as everyone gives it their all to defeat Zagred.

NOTES: Like always, no spoilers, especially since we're nearing the end of the arc. Post spoilers, and you'll be sealed away.

No comments at all? Really? Okay, I'll say something.

I have to admit, Black Clover is at its best in straight action episodes like this. The well-paced fight scenes, and the viewer's desire to see the sadistic, irredeemable villain get some payback, are strong enough to gloss over the show's weaknesses. If the series (and probably the original manga) had gotten some judicious editing, and including getting rid of the annoying one-note side characters, this would have been episode 40 or 50 instead of 119 and we'd all be better off.

OK, when did the demon get named Zagred? I realize there are likely materials from Japan or Studio Pierrot that have his name written down, but they never actually introduce his name as Zagred as I recall. Even when I saw the subtitles, the only one I recall is "Word Demon."

It's finally here, the climax!

Asta finally taps into the power of the Demon-Slayer Sword as from the last episode.

Gueldre and Revchi were actually in the Shadow Palace all along and thanks to the Invisibility Magic, they remain undetected from the Other World Magic that sucks up mana and drains life.

Yami is now back 100 percent and he is planning on how to attack while he leaves it to Asta who can defeat the demon.

Asta tries to control the power he tries into and manages to break the Devil's lance that was created to break down any spell. The Devil counters by using the Grimoire to make more of the abominations that take shape of more monsters. As Lumiere saves Asta, he gets hit by accident due to Asta trying to control the sword.

Patry manages to use Demon Light Magic from his Dark Elf power to actually destroy the Devil's monsters successfully.

As Lumiere who got accidentally hit while impressed by the Anti-Magic, Secre comes up with the plan to suppress Asta's power to control it. Lumiere decides that won't be an option considering what's about to happen.

Yuno taunts Asta for not giving his all by using the combination of air in form of a vacuum with the mana from everyone else around and spirit magic to be able to cut down the monsters with his new magic technique in from of a sword of air, Spirit of Zephyr!

Asta then gets a hang of his own Anti-Magic in form of his own technique from the Demon-Slayer Sword, Black Divider! Now both rivals have break their limits!

Lumiere realizes that Yuno is a reincarnation of the child of Licht and Tetia who's a wind user herself, which explains how Yuno's new technique is a reminiscent of both. Secre also him that Asta is a boy with no magic who's the worst at giving up.

Asta and Yuno coordinates with each other by using the wind to speed Asta up to actually stab the Devil... but his heart was not there since it moved willingly! Then the Devil starts forming mouths all over it's body trash-talking everyone else.

The Devil stops playing and prepares to unleash his full power to destroy everyone! Asta's Anti-Magic can actually destroy him but his body is already reaching its limit!

Meanwhile, the fight between Jack and Noelle against Fana continues, until the life-sucking magic arrives to stop it. Nozel arrives to save both Noelle and strike Fana out of the way to escape. Everyone else is already aware and are trying to escape before said magic swallows them all.

Lumiere and Licht combines their magic to give their power via the Demon-Dweller Sword to everyone fighting to survive in the Shadow Palace. Rhya is aware of the reunion happening which makes him jealous. Patry protects both Lumiere and Licht with his Demon Light Magic for their sake and everyone else's.

Yami has an idea for his next attack by using Charlotte's vines as a scabbard for a long-range attack to strike the demon. Asta, Yuno, and Yami prepares their next attack that should destroy the Devil once and for all.

Asta and Yuno attacks the Devil from both sides using each other's magic before he can react especially in the blind spot! It works... but Asta's power gave out before the team blow can finish it! This is not good!

Yami concentrates all of his power including from Charlotte/Charla's mana into his next Dimension Slash attack especially from long-range. As Yami remembers Julius, he finally begins his next attack.

Yami uses Mana Zone into his Dimension Slash: Equinox! This time, it works and cuts the Devil in half! The Devil gets completely off-guard and tries to pull together while vomiting from the mouths.

Secre uses her Sealing Magic to heal Asta's wounds so he can use his Anti-Magic again and asks him if he's still going to become Wizard King. Asta responds he will and he uses Black Divider once again!

Asta finally deals the finishing blow by cutting through the Devil and slashing the heart in half! Is this it, the final attack?!

Whoo, great chapter and Studio Pierrot pulled off the stops on these past episodes.

@TheVileOne The Word Soul Devil's name was revealed in the manga later in the recent chapters.

OK. I've fallen behind in the manga. They should've just had him introduce himself after he was revealed. That would've helped.

Even when we thought Patri was Licht he was at least calling himself that and was having his followers refer to him as such.

Hey! So the name "Zagred" was a minor spoiler from the manga? I thought it was revealed in a logline from last week or something.

It was cool seeing all the 'elite' characters observing Yuno and Asta and admitting to how good they are, even evolving their abilities right before their eyes into new sword spells. Interesting Lumiere realized Yuno is the reincarnation of Licht and Tetia's unborn son.

Of course the devil can shift his heart around. Argh!

Demon Dweller Sword can allow for a combo spell? Sure. And so cool! I wonder if that bond attribute could apply to Yuno and Asta.

Aw, it was heart warming to hear Secre admit she grew fond of Asta and believed in his dream to be the Wizard King.

Yami freakin' saved their butts from an impossible distance. Clutch! Secre with the clever assist and Asta with the winning move. So awesome!!!

Loved that nice touch of Yami and Asta drawing on their memories of the important people in their lives for their final moves this episode.

Woot, that was an exciting final battle!

As with every anime where characters can make their swords magically get bigger, it's d*** joke time. Just like bankais in Bleach. Black Clover is still the McDonalds of shonen where it's not profound, but it can be fun when Studio Pierrot puts work into it. This show would have had an awesome toyline if McFarlane toys wants to try a non MHA anime. We saw Yuno's sword.
