Do you guys think Season 4 will be the final season? I think so. I don't know much longer DC's streaming service will last, and I think Season 4 would be a good place to wrap the show up. Seeing Darkseid spend all of Season 3 pretty much not doing anything felt weird after the long cancellation after Season 2. I'd rather they wrap the show up properly.

This is Greg Weisman. I doubt he will ever fully wrap up the show.

Even if DC Universe doesn't last, I expect the originals to migrate to HBOMax.

I don't think they'll wrap it up either. The purpose and theme of the series is "legacy". From what they did with
Slobo
, I can't really get on board with enthusiasm anymore. I will still watch, but not all that excited.

There will probably always be some plots that don't get resolved within a season, they could resolve later on if the show continues, but I thought season 3 had a pretty good ending, as opposed to the previous ones.

As for a season 5, I presume we probably won't hear anything official until at least half-way through season 4 (and we still don't know when that will premiere). I could see it moving to HBO Max, if the current system fails or is dropped. As long as they keep it on streaming I imagine the show could last a while longer.

I dunno... I feel like season 4 would be a good place to start wrapping up Young Justice. Otherwise it starts running into the risk of overstaying its welcome.

Personally, each season of YJ has gotten worse, but maybe season 4 will surprise.

You make a valid point. Honestly, I can personally see going 7 seasons. Though, I think the team already stated somethings that doesn't seem like they're willing to go outside the box.

What sort of things are you referring to?

It's interesting that season 3 had such a lukewarm reception. Perhaps a large number of fans expected the show to keep up the momentum and intensity that was established in season 2 (with the Reach arc and that alien race's stranglehold on the planet). What we got instead was a "back-to-basics" third season in which the old guard trained several newbies and we *gradually* caught up with other established characters like Beast Boy and Bumblebee as the season drew on. I thought that this was fine and not at all unexpected. I didn't see a war with Apokolips unfolding in season 3, despite the use of a new, foreboding opening title sequence that featured Apokolips prominently. We still got to see the New Gods step up in season 3, with Granny Goodness as the main antagonist and the motherboxes/fatherboxes finally taking centre stage (after being used sparingly in seasons one and two). This sat well with me. Also, Granny Goodness is a more appropriate choice of villain for a younger generation of heroes than someone like Darkseid.

The pace of season 3 was at times *too* slow and luxurious, but there's something ironic about the fact that some people enjoyed season 1 for slower-paced, "smaller" episodes, only to then slam season 3, which had similarly slow-paced episodes that focused on a core set of characters (at least in the first 13, which largely focused on Nightwing, Superboy, Tigress, Geo-Force, Halo and Forager). Perhaps all the Happy Harbour stuff was deemed too repetitive by some people, since we'd already seen a great deal of that in season 1. But the way I see it, season 3 had the task of "reviving" the show after a six year hiatus, and I think that the show runners tried very hard to recapture the appeal of both of the first two seasons by focusing on the original members' new roles as mentors to "unknowns" like Halo *and* by touching on many of the tensions that were prevalent in season 2 (such as the public knowledge of the metagene and the influence of players like Godfrey within the media). Season 3 was, in a way, the first season of a relaunch, so it stuck to familiar territory and didn't try to overreach. Maybe season 4 will emulate the pacing of season 2 and advance the storylines in surprising, dramatic, unexpected ways that pull the rug from under people's feet.

So you're saying.. Season 3 was like The Force Awakens of Young Justice?

At this point, I'd rather see Greg focus on expanding the YJ universe; he's tossed out so many hints at where he might go, but not a lot of it fits strictly in YJ. I'd like to see him do mini-series set in the same universe - finite large arcs, perhaps. Metal Men, Bats- and Superman families, LSH, Justice Society, etc.

I think YJ would definitely end itself to spinoffs, although at the same time I think that would probably require more man-power and resources that they already pull into the main show.

Considering that they do like to leave plot threads open at the end of every season, I don't think that they'd be interested in a proper wrap up for Young Justice. Even if DC Universe doesn't last much longer, it would make more sense to move the series to either HBO Max or Netflix. The series is still popular and successful enough to be revived years after it was cancelled, so it would be kind of strange to end it just because DC Universe ended.

I'm not sure if this was brought up in the previous News and Discussion thread, but has the current virus situation impacted the production for season four? I wouldn't be too surprised if it hasn't given that they didn't announce a new season until after season three had finished production and we probably wouldn't really see anything from season four until next year anyway, but I was curious if something had come up recently about the production.

They've gotten quiet on social media about where they're at in pre-production and production. I don't remember much since mid-March when Vietti said it hasn't affected production, just some are learning how to work from home. On February 8, 11 scripts and 6 voice records were done. Then on March 3, 12 scripts and 8 voice records for season 4 have been completed. So by now should be 14 scripts and 12 records. Looking at production updates from Outsiders, work on animatics/boarding probably should have done for the first 13 of season 4 by now. Since Outsiders work started November 14, 2016 and by September 11, 2018, 12 episodes were done and ready. So in theory by around May next year, around 12 of season 4 should be done. So they could be shooting for a summer 2021 start for the first half to stream or to be conservative, early fall.

I wouldn't go with Netflix, because they already turned it down. Besides, they've had enough WB DC content imho (Lucifer and Sandman). HBOmax will likely assimilate DC Universe sooner or later. They're already farming out their content like Harley Quinn and Star Girl. It could be to see how they perform with more eyes on it, or simply they will contract them out for good. Syfy has Harley, and we know that's a Universal channel, so who knows.

This article says season 4 will premiere in 2020.
:D
Until we hear from Greg or Brandon, it's all bunk. Besides that, it's highly unlikely it'll premiere this year. They haven't even started production enough to get anything. Can't believe they're that desperate from clicks.

Yeah, I'm skeptical they would have enough episodes ready to premiere the new season this year. Maybe the original idea was to premiere the show after Doom Patrol but the Coronavirus pandemic might have affected those plans. Personally I also haven't really noticed the quote they mention, with Weisman talking about Luthor.
