The comment section for SpongeBob Twitter account is a mess. It's either full of porn art (disgusting) or people who refuses to even give seasons 4+ a chance.

Also, today marks 5 years since the post-sequel started. While I have mixed feelings on it, I'm glad the artists and animators are able to put effort in the show instead of reusing seasons 6-8's stiff style.

I wish Nickelodeon would monitor that kind of stuff better. It's the official SpongeBob account; there's really no excuse for comments like that to stay on the page.

I think season 9B onwards has been pretty solid. Not amazing, but solid. There's been some memorable episodes ("Feral Friends," "SpongeBob's Birthday Blowout," etc.) and some lame episodes. I don't love that the writers try and cash in on nostalgia by randomly bringing back one-time characters from seasons 1-3 episodes (Kevin the Sea Cucumber, old lady from the chocolate episode, etc.), but not every one of these instances has been horrible.

If the show stayed exactly the way it is now, I honestly wouldn't mind.

It is possible that he’s only saying that based on the current situation; he wasn’t even involved that much with movie’s production, so I don’t know if he would know behind the scenes discussions based on distribution and all that.

While I don’t for sure, I wouldn’t be terribly surprised if they decided to release it in theaters next year, considered the deal between AMC and Comcast, and depending on how well it does in Canada.

We know that already, but, like what @wammyguide said, given the AMC-Universal deal, and the possibility that theatrical windows for future films might shorten depending on if unsuccessful or successful, that might change.
