John K accused of prior sexual misconduct

Ren & Stimpy will probably continue to be one of the most influential shows of my childhood. And yet in recent months I've read up on a few behind-the-scenes horror stories regarding its creator John Kricfalusi.

And suddenly this pops up in my Twitter feed:

Anyway, John Kricfalusi, known primarily for creating The Ren And Stimpy Show and its 2003 Adult Party Cartoon spinoff, was accused of sexual allegations in the 1990s against two women who were teenagers at the time (Robyn Brown and Katie Rice).

Nobody is really shocked, to say the least. If you own the Adult Party Cartoon DVD, the uncomfortableness is deafening.

It's also, apparently, been a open secret for decades.

First, it was Chris Savino, then Dan Schneider and now John K are out of the bag. Nickelodeon's image had taken lots of dents...and I got the feeling it won't the the last one and there might be more to come.

Let's not bring up politics here, especially when that has nothing to do with this situation or with the more scandals coming to light.

There were two threads on this topic, so I merged them together. Sadly, I'm not really shocked by this news. Given what I've heard about John K being so hard to work with, the idea that he has been sexually abusive isn't a huge stretch to honest. I never saw Adult Party Cartoon, but that might have also made this headline less of a shock for me.

Man, another animation legend is accused. I'm nowhere near as shocked with this as I was with Lasseter, Kricfalusi has always struck me as being a bit of a weirdo. I didn't necessarily think he was doing this, but it's no shock. I'm just enormously saddened by it. @19MagiswordLane, I never saw Adult Cartoon Party, what kind of stuff was present that made this not surprising? (Though if it's so bad it can't be posted, don't bother).

Ohhh, out of all the animators that one would have suspected, John K.'s is the least surprising. I heard rumors around him and Lynne Naylor and other things.

The whole story was gross, but in particular Katie Rice's description of one of the child porn pictures allegedly on John K.'s computer was just... yuuuuuck. Brain bleach, please.

I would be perfectly happy if we never saw any more John K. animation ever again if it meant no more underage victims.

@19MagiswordLane, I never saw Adult Cartoon Party, what kind of stuff was present that made this not surprising? (Though if it's so bad it can't be posted, don't bother).

The DVD intros mostly, especially "Naked Beach Frenzy". It's the stuff everybody points to when they mention "John K. is a total CREEP!!!", but it's not hard to see the evidence:

Whoa, yeah that's creepy. Really, her body language and facial expressions kind of tell the whole story for me, there's some pretty clear dislike there.

I always had a feeling that John K was always someone that had something hiding behind his back, didn't know how long would it take until we saw the day it was revealed and for the record this is very disgusting of how he would hold relationships with underage girls, especially those who were his fans.

And for that DVD it just brings back the darkness that won't ever go away, which is very unfortunate.

After reading the whole article, I can safely say that I never want to watch anything John K made ever again. I always knew that John K was a jerk, but he's actually a pedophile to boot. Even the attorney admitted that he had a sixteen year old girlfriend during the 1990s when he was around his thirties or forties. There's no way of getting around that.

The entire article was so depressing and heartbreaking to read through, but the child porn on his computer also sent chills up my spine. The attorney's defense also left a bad taste in my mouth. I realize that attorneys have to defend their clients, but dealing with mental health problems isn't a good excuse for being a sexually abusive pedophile.

It's just so tragic that he abused not only these women as young girls, but that he sexually harassed other female artists. I'm not sure if they can get any legal action involved. The article mentioned that their case was too old for them to investigate, but hopefully John K can get some consequence for his actions. I just hope speaking out against him helps these two women who still have to deal with the long term effects of his abuse and behavior.

Dag, another one. But since I remember hearing a story from Bob Camp about his infamous temper at a Comic-Con last year, it doesn't really shock me very much.

I feel very sorry for Ms. Brown and Ms. Rice, and I hope they get vindication for their suffering against him, and that Kricfalusi get punished to the fullest extent of the law.

Don't forget the 'drawing' he made of her and a dog mentioned in the article and the Polaroids. I HOPE they will never release those and I HOPE nobody goes on a hunt for those, please...

The Mysterious Mr. Enter did an "Animated Atrocities" video for the APC episode "Ren Seeks Help." Watch at your own risk - some of the clips from the episode in question are quite dark.

I only remember watching two episodes of APC before it was pulled, but I read on TVTropes that for some it actually changed their opinion of Nickelodeon's handling of the original series, saying that the network was the only thing keeping John K from going off the deep end.
