Movie Talkback Threads

Please keep in mind that talkbacks should only be started on official United States opening dates—sneek previews do not count. Wait until the film has been released.

If there are no midnight showings scheduled, threads should not be started at midnight the day of, wait until after 8 a.m. the next day. This "honor" is otherwise reserved for "special event" releases which is at moderator discretion. Please note that midnight showing must be nation-wide, not just a handful of showings. Also, special "preview" airings the day before a movie premiere do not count as the premiere date for a movie. Please wait until the movie's official release date to post a takback.

How to do a movie talkback

So you wanna do a movie talkback, do ya? Well talkbacks (especially now that we are keeping them around) should look sharp and this post will show you exactly how to do it.

But before you do it, please read the intro to the next post!

To show you all how this is done, I have selected Star Wars Episode I to serve as our shining example.

The first step in of course the thread title, this is what will appear on the main board for posters to click on. You need the movie title in quotes followed by Talkback and of course the (Spoilers) warning.

"Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace" Talkback (Spoilers)

Then you start the main body of the post which features many things that we will get to one by one. Starting with the movie's tagline.

The best place to find the tag line is probably Internet Movie Database which has a part on the entry just for taglines. The official site of the movie may also be helpful here.

Like so...
Every generation has a legend. Every journey has a first step. Every saga has a beginning.

Then you need (hopefully) the official movie poster. AllPosters.com is the best place for this and the movie's ComingSoon entry (which we will get to in a moment) will often link you there. In order RottenTomatoes.com and Internet Movie Database are your next best bets. To post the image, right click on it and go down to properties. Copy the Address: (URL) and paste it in the post using the

button to make it an image.

Next if you can, find a nice quote from the movie that doesn't give too much away, post that below the poster. The trailer is usually a good source for this and you can always use Internet Movie Database. If you know who says it, attribute it to them.

The next part is oh so simple. To center the tagline, the poster and the quote, simply highlight all three lines and click on the center tool.

Next you will need to get the Release Date, Studio, the Director and those Starring in the movie. Make sure to

each category.

Jim and I have found that the ComingSoon.net movie database is a good source of this information. The movie's official site or Internet Movie Database can also be helpful.

Then hit return a couple times and give us a the Plot Summary in much the same way. In addition to the sites listed above, RottenTomatoes.com is also useful here.

Plot Summary: Naboo, a peaceful planet governed by the young, elusive, but wise Queen Amidala (Portman), is being threatened by the corrupt Trade Federation, puppets of an evil Sith lord and his terrifying apprentice, Darth Maul (Park). The seemingly benevolent Senator Palpatine (McDiarmid) is chief advisor to the queen, though there are suspicions surrounding him. Jedi knights Qui-Gon Jinn (Neeson) and Obi-Wan Kenobi (McGregor) are called on to intervene in the trade disputes. Along the way, they acquire an apprentice of their own in the form of young prodigal Anakin Skywalker (Lloyd). They also encounter Jar Jar Binks (Best), a goofy, lizardlike creature who has been banished from his underwater world for his clumsiness. When the Trade Federation launches an attack on Naboo, the queen and her allies must battle hordes of robot troopers while Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan face off against the sinister Darth Maul.

The next two parts are so simple it's almost too much to explain them. Provide a link the movie's website (or the trailers) and ask for comments. Use the

When a movie is going to hit theaters follow this format and not only will it look sharp and people will know what's going on with the movie, but you will save us the trouble of fixing it and everyone should want that.

Movie Talkbacks -- From A to M

Welcome The Entertainment Board's master list of movie talkbacks. After several searches we believe we have found nearly every movie talkback posted on this board over the last several years. This thread is focused on Entertainment so the animated talkbacks are not included. I recommend doing a board search for those on their respective boards.

Make sure you read this next part very carefully before looking down the list...

This list is to help you find talkbacks for movies you may wish to comment and not so we can fill in the holes of every movie ever made. Sure, they are movies missing, but if everyone started trying to fill in the holes we would have a massive mess on our hands.

If you wish to fill in a hole for a movie that is not airing on network TV or basic cable the evening you post it you're gonna have to jump through a hoop or two:

After selecting the movie you wish to make a talkback for you must send me, The Penguin, a private message or an e-mail (if I am on some sort of a break that will be indicated here).

Upon receiving your request, I will assess upcoming events and any other talkback requests and after you submit what your post will look like (see the next paragraph) I will assign you a day to post your talkback and add the title on the list.

Of course you need to follow the format listed above because if you really want to post the talkback I should not have to go in and change it—it's your responsibility.

This may not sound fun, but it was the only way we came up with to avoid a board flood of movie talkbacks which no one wants to see. This policy is subject to change, but this will be how it is until a better idea to keep these sane and regulated comes along.

Movie Talkback of the Month

Welcome to another new movie feature here on The Entertainment Board, the Movie Talkback of the Month. This feature will be used to highlight some of the previously released movies in the Movie talkbacks From A to Z section. Sometimes they will be new threads and other times they will be selected from the current list. Hopefully this will help foster some discussion in these threads. Look for the current Movie Talkback of the Month below the current releases in the first post of the this thread.
