CBS ended their Saturday morning cartoon block in 1997. Starting in the Fall of 1997, they outsourced and ran a bunch of educational cartoons and shows, using material from Nelvana and eventually from Nick Jr.

CBS was the home of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from 1990 to 1996, one of the kings of 90's cartoons. Once that show fizzled and ended, it wasn't long after that that their Saturday morning block ended.

Besides TMNT, CBS was also the home of Garfield & Friends from 1988 to 1995. The Weird Al Show arrived at the moment when CBS ended its Saturday cartoon block. Had The Weird Al Show arrived 2 or 3 years earlier perhaps it would have been successeful as Pee-Wee's Playhouse.

Why is it automatically assumed that if a person were to suddenly gain super powers they'll put on tights and either immediately decide to save the world or conquer/destroy it?

Whenever I watch the RiffTrax version of The Apple, I get that "Hey, Hey, Hey, BIM's on the way!" song stuck in my head.
