Now, we know how looked down upon the 4Kids OP dub is around here. Let's say you were in charge of casting the voices. What studio would you use and which VA's would you put to play each character? You can even use the current cast, but rearrange some voices.

I'm going to cast the Straw Hat Pirates crew for now. I'm going to use Ocean Studios for this:

Monkey D. Luffy: Zoe Slusar(Sai-Sai Ci from G Gundam)
Zoro: Brian Drummond
Sanji: Ted Cole
Nami: Lalainia Lindbjerg(Bluma from DBZ and various other roles)
Chopper: Jillian Michaels(Shippo from InuYasha)
Usopp: Brad Swaile
Nico Robin: Ellen Kennedy(Kyoko from Maison Ikkoku, Princess Snake from DBZ and others)

Luffy: Vic Mignogna. I know he's voiced by a female in the original version, but I can't help but feel that Luffy could really sound cool with Vic Mignogna as his actor. Hearing him as Edward Elric leaned me towards him.

Zoro: Marc Diraison is doing an awesome job. Maybe he could make Zoro sound a little more cool in some scenes, but right now he's the best voice in the current dub.

Sanji: Steven Blum. He could really improve Sanji, and I'm sure he could pull it off well, no question.

Usopp: Johnny Yong Bosch. He did well with Vash's wacky scenes, and he definitely can pull off a good voice for Usopp.

Chopper: Lisa Ortiz. She's doing a great job as well in the current dub. Her voice sounds close to the original. Though I hope she can slightly deepen it for Chopper's larger forms.

Robin: If Veronica Taylor lost the fake accent, I would keep this. The voice is pretty fitting.

Nami is the most difficult one for me to decide, since I have no clue as to who would be appropriate. Maybe Wendee Lee, if she decided to use a higher pitch than her usual adult female roles.

But these aren't the only changes I would make. Several other characters, such as Vivi, Tashigi, Arlong, and Crocodile would be changed too.

Mixing studios eh?

But holy crap... Vic WOULD be a good voice for Luffy.

New FUNimation CAST AHOY!

Luffy - Vic Micnogna
Zoro - Travis Willingham - would have been Daemon Clarke but he's LA now
Sanji - John Burgmeier
Usopp - Jerry Jewel
Nami - Catlin Glass or Kara Edwards
Nico Robin - Laura Bailey (using her sexy voice of course)
Chopper - Alison Ritzlof (SP? - it's Conan's VA)
Kuina / Tashigi - Colleen Clinkenbeard
Smoker - Captain Bulge from Galaxy Railways
Franky - Chris Sabat (you know it baby)
Paulie - Troy Baker
Shanks - Sean Schemmel (as a guest role of course)
Mihawk - Chris Rager (something close to his Yuri from Baki but not that accent)
Vivi - Kara Edwards or Catlin Glass
Ace - Justin Cooke

Yes I do believe that would be awesome beyond words.

I'm sorry, she can't act. You only have to see her attempts at Sai and GT Goku to see that. Do you really want Luffy to have a lifeless throaty rasp?

Um, how about Michelle Ruff? She sounds like she can pull off Nami pretty well.

Well, I only chose her because that was the only VA I could think from Ocean that could do it. Didn't she voice kid Goku in DB as well?

Well, it's either him, Stephanie Nadolny, or Justin Cook.

I always thought Chuck Huber would be a good Sanji, although Burgmeier could work.

Earlier this year, Variety mentioned that Toei is aiming One Piece to be DB/Z/GT's global successor. I wouldn't go into the usual dub route myself. Draw from the pool of people who do US-original voicework and build up a cast that can support US versions of the albums Toei shows pile up in Japan- a revenue stream all too rare in the US. I can't say for certain if Animaniacs' Japanese cast recorded albums like the original US one did, but their dub certainly had actors who could.

Well, it's not like he can't do voices for FUNi anymore. Him and Kyle Hebert still do FUNi dubs.

I doubt he'd pick up a major role in a show reaching 300 episodes, though. A single arc character maybe, but not Zoro.

I gotta say Kuwaba-kun. I really and I mean REALLY don't like some of that cast. Especially Nadonley as Luffy. I wanted to avoid that at all costs. Sabat as Usopp... saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay waaaaaaaaaaaaaah? Kate Higgens for Nami? Groan worthy. I like the supporting cast though. Scott McNeil as Dalton would be awesome as would Skip as Franky but if he is the VA of Sunbeam I'd like him for Zoro.

That said... Studiopolis dub time.

Luffy - Liam O' Brien - I think he could pull it off
Nami - Kari Wahlgren
Zoro - Skip or Freeman
Sanji - Steven Blum
Usopp - Johnny Young Bosche
Chopper - Colleen O'Shaughnessy
Robin - Wendee Lee
Franky - Skip would probably be best
Paulie - Doug Erholtz

Lets make it more realistic and use the 4kids NYC Voice actors. Remember were incharge of the project.

So here's mines:

Cast:
Nami: The Actor who voices Tea' From Yu-Gi-oh!.
Zolo: Same Voice.
Sanji: Frank Frankson. Voice of Rah in TMNT and Rick in F-Zero.
Usoup: The Voice Actor of Kid Muscle.
Robin: The voice Actor who voice Rene on Mew Mew Power.
Chopper: Same.
Luffy: I would pay for the plane ticket for Jousha Seth to voice Luffy for a season worth of eps. He's just perfect for the role.

Edits:
I wouldn't edit the guns, The Marine Logo, or nothing besides the amount of blood in the series. I'll just tone the blood down by showing less blood in the series. NO hiding death or anything.

Promotion:
Now before the launch date of the series, I would release Uncut Boxsets and DVds of the first season two weeks before its premiere on national tele. Have cards, the first game, appearel lined up for release on the launch of the series. Support the series with a mall tour and city tour while premiering it not only on 4kids TV but Toonami as well with two back to back eps to keep the pace going strong. around Christmas time mor goodys and stuff and just continue building from there.

Yeah...If you want a voice like that, you may as well just stick with her 4Kids VA. :p

I didn't want her as Luffy either. But I couldn't submit a list without Luffy. I'm still stumped for him.

Sabat would be perfect for Usopp. Kuwabara + Yamucha, but a little more nasaly. I think he could really capture the part.

I have to say, Higgins screams Nami to me. Her work as Sakura and Talho has me sold. Skip could be a decent Zoro, but I want me some Crispin Freeman as Zoro.

Hate, hate, hate Bosch as Usopp. He'd be terrible for the part. Aside from that, pretty strong list. I'm not positive on Liam as Luffy, but its not a huge stretch.

Wendee Lee was my first choice as Robin until I thought of Christine Auten.

She's never done an older male voice, has she? I can't forsee that working, she seems more in Chopper's range.
Zoro: Lex Lang
Nami: Michelle Ruff
Like, although I think Crispin would be perfect for Zoro.
Usopp: David Neil Black
I'm not familiar with anything he's done except Ryoma.
Sanji: Skip Stellrecht
Chopper: Tara Strong
Robin: Mary Elizabeth McGlynn
Vivi: Danielle Judovits
Franky: Jeff Glenn Bennett
Like all these.
Shanks: Steve Blum
A bit outside his usual range, but I could see it working.

A slightly revised list:

Luffy: Stephanie Nadolny
Zoro: Crispin Freeman
Nami: Kate Higgins
Usopp: Chris Sabat
Sanji: Steve Blum
Chopper: Colleen O'Shaughnessy
Robin: Christine Auten

Ace: Yuri Lowenthall

I just have one specific choice...

Bon Kurei: Charlie Adler

Think about it. It's perfect. :)

But if you ask me, I don't like this idea of Stephanie Naldony as Luffy. She has a voice that's probably even raspier than the 4Kids Luffy, and, IMHO, she was a terrible Gohan in DragonBall Z. Her Goku in DragonBall was decently better but I still don't see that voice of hers being a good Luffy. I can't think of a female VA that can really pull off that kind of voice, so I think the best thing in this case would be to find a young-sounding male VA for this kind of part, like Joshua Seth, for instance.

But hey, nobody asked me...

Since it's May the Fourth, might as well post this bit of trivia:

DePatie–Freleng Enterprises- known for The Pink Panther, mid-60s Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies, many Dr. Seuss specials, The Bod Squad, and Time for Timer- handled the lightsaber effects for Episode IV.
I wonder if the new Dexter's Lab set will have Rude Removal on it. They were okay with putting The Whoopass Girls on the PPG set many years ago that they were advertising on Cartoon Network (albeit they muted every time it was said in the pilot). This set's clearly for adults.
They should file a lawsuit against MeTV Toons for stealing the classic cartoons away from Boomerang. Boomerang found the classic cartoons first.

I haven't seen a channel launch as promising as MeTV Toons since The Hub. Let's hope their similarities don't extend to fate.
