Every once in a while, a series comes along that changes our perspective of what an animated series can be. Because most times people think of them as “kids shows” or “adult cartoons” depending on the channel and when it’s shown. But then there are shows that bridge gaps, showcase deep material, or blow your mind visually that you can’t help but wonder how this was never done before. One such show was that of Primal, and fans are awaiting Primal Season 2 with everything they have.
For those who don’t, Primal is a show on Adult Swim made by Genndy Tartakovsky, the genius creator of the original Star Wars Clone Wars shorts, Samurai Jack, and Hotel Transylvania. The reason Primal stands out to many is that it’s a show that relies solely on its visuals and extremely minimal voice acting. Mainly because the main characters are a neanderthal and a dinosaur.
The show was so well-loved and acclaimed that it won an Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program, not something a lot of shows get based on Primal’s premise. So needless to say, fans are EAGERLY wanting Primal Season 2 to arrive. And Genndy has brought forth an update on that via his Instagram:
“Well, just finished the last storyboard panel of the last episode of season 2 of Primal! It will be something to see. We’re halfway done and the episodes are turning out great! Everyone is doing some incredible work, I’m a lucky guy!”
Lucky indeed. Though obviously, this doesn’t reveal when it’ll come out, but if the episodes are halfway done in terms of animation, we could see the first half release before the end of 2021 and the rest arrive sometime in 2022.
One has to wonder how Genndy and his team are pushing things in creative directions in Season 2. We’ll have to wait and see.
