It’s the week you’ve been dreading, everybody. We still don’t know the fate of non-DC HBO Max shows currently in production, but we sure know now what is happening to the Cartoon Network shows that share that space: most of what’s been created within the last five to ten years is being erased.
The removals include OK KO, Mao Mao (wonder if that second season will ever be confirmed), Mighty Magiswords (sorry, Kyle, can I buy you a drink?) and Infinity Train, a true classic that will be treasured fondly for generations (through bootleg YouTube accounts). Tig & Seek and The Fungies, two shows that were supposed to be CN Originals yet premiered on HBO Max due to the immediate need for content, will now pay for that with their lives.
Some of the removals are downright head-scratching. Summer Camp Island was to premiere its final season on HBO Max later this year, but we don’t see how if the entire thing is being vaporized. Victor & Valentino has some new episodes premiering right now, but they will apparently remain on CN.
In addition, 20 HBO Max originals exclusive to the service will now become the domain of piracy, including JG Quintel’s Close Enough (which just premiered its last season) and Aquaman: King of Atlantis (which barely existed three months). If you can’t see the content you paid for, and Warner Bros paid far more for, what’s the value of an HBO Max subscription then? …Good question.
