When it comes to directing, while it’s always fun to test out new talent, most studios (and fanbases) prefer to have established names going and directing properties. Regardless of whether it’s a movie or a TV show. Mainly because they want to make sure that things are both preserved, honored, and yet shown and told in a special way. Over the last few years, few directors have been talked about more than Zack Snyder. The former head of the DCEU has been in a long-standing war with Warner Bros over their butchering of his films and only recently did he get both vindication and freedom.
Because after the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League (which by all accounts was a major hit despite Warner Bros not releasing any numbers for it…) he went and released Army of the Dead on Netflix which was seen in just the first few days by 72 million households. An incredible feat.
So what is next for Snyder? Well, he’s open to doing a lot of projects, and one of them might just be an anime. He was on a Youtube channel and he talked about whether he’d be up for directing an anime show in the pure sense, or, doing a live-action adaptation of an anime franchise. He said if the “project was right” he’d be up for it.
“I would consider that. I mean, if it came right.” Snyder began, “But definitely, I would do an anime remake or live-action. That would be fun because I love animation, and I watch a ton of anime with my kid who’s too young to watch it but we watch anyway (laughs).”
Dragon Ball was one who was brought up and Snyder seemed up for that. But given the far reach of anime, Snyder could have a wide array of franchises to choose from if he wanted. However, most would agree that it might be best to do a pure anime movie version a live-action telling…because those rarely go well.
