You May Have To Wait A Long Time For The Next True Metroid Game

Nintendo did a weird thing to keep the Metroid brand alive this year. This E3 they announced Metroid Prime Federation Force, a mutliplayer co-op game on the 3DS starring four faceless Federation soldiers. It’s the first game under the Metroid brand to not have Samus in it.

You might think this is just a placeholder due to the next faithful Metroid game being far from ready, and you’d be right. Metroid Prime series producer Kensuke Tanabe told the website Eurogamer that he would like to make a fourth Metroid Prime, but if he started work NOW…..

“If we started for Wii U now, it would likely take three years or so. So it would likely now be on Nintendo’s NX console,” Tanabe said. “It’s a long time but it would need to include a lot of content, which would take a lot of work on the development side.”

Tanabe has some ideas for the next Metroid. He says he’d like to introduce some kind of time travel mechanic into the next game. But his hands are currently tied on the development end. “It is a great idea, I agree. Truth be told, making HD games takes a lot of time and resources.” When prompted as to why there will apparently never be a Metroid game on the Wii U, he admitted “I haven’t been able to collect a team or the resources to do it.”
