This fall Yo-Kai Watch 2 will be released for the Nintendo 3DS in two versions, but that’s not the end of it. Yo-Kai Watch protagonist Nate and his ghost friends are about to embark on their biggest adventure yet (in terms of screen size). Level-5 and Eleven Arts confirmed the Yo-Kai Watch movie will get an American release next month.
The plot involves Nate being sent back in time by the cat pictured above, to save the past along with his grandfather, the inventor of the Yo-Kai Watch. The movie became Japan’s highest-grossing domestic film at the box office in 2015, racking up 7.8 billion yen, or around 65 million dollars.
The odds of the English-dubbed version achieving such heights is minimal. Not just because the response to Yo-Kai hasn’t been as loud here as Pokemon was, but because this is a Fathom Events release that affects only 300 theaters nationwide. It will also only play for one day.
If any interested parties don’t live near a theater playing the movie, it’ll turn up on DVD and streaming shortly afterward. Have a trailer, and check the listings to see where Yo-Kai Watch: The Movie is playing near you.
