You can hear the sirens going off at WB, the men rushing and yelling around the office floor, the papers flying everywhere. Something went wrong and their most important weapon in the War Against Disney, the BVS, failed to detonate properly. In fact it was quite the dud, dropping off severely in its second week at the box office. Bad reviews, bad audience reaction and bad tweets are convincing those who haven’t paid for it yet to spend their cash on something else.
WB is now adjusting its schedule accordingly. The one thing people loved about Batman V Superman was the ten minutes they saw of Wonder Woman, and in accordance, her movie’s release date has been moved up. “Wonder Woman” is now coming out June 2, 2017. Two more mysterious, untitled superhero movies have also been added to the release schedule, to premiere October 5, 2018 and November 1, 2019. Still on track are Justice League Part One (Nov. 17, 2017), The Flash (March 16, 2018), Aquaman (July 27, 2018), Shazam! (April 5, 2019), Justice League Part Two” (June 14, 2019), and Cyborg (April 3, 2020), though if something else underperforms, some of these might disappear.
The one DC movie people are excited about is Suicide Squad, and it’s because the trailer made it look not unlike Deadpool or Guardians of the Galaxy. Turns out, that trailer was misleading and every joke in the entire film was used in it. WB is now spending millions on getting the cast back and massively reshooting the entire picture to make sure people get the lighthearted romp they were sold. They’re probably going to need the bat back from Harley Quinn Smith.
One thing that’s not on the table? Getting rid of Zack Snyder. Even though he got them into this mess, he’s still on track to direct both Justice League movies. The man who was responsible for their franchise plans sinking like the Titanic is being given more ships. Our only explanation is that he must have something incriminating on one of those executives.
