Warner Bros Developing Wile E. Coyote Movie

How many attempts has Warner Bros. made at a Looney Tunes movie? To the point, how many successful attempts have there been? One could arguably argue that 1996’s Space Jam was a sales success, but it hasn’t aged well. The last attempt to make it to screen was the box office disappointment Looney Tunes: Back In Action in 2003 — ever since, we periodically hear of another revival, but none make it past the planning stage.

By this point, Warner Bros’ repeated failure to revitalize the Looney Tunes in movie form could be considered an allegory to a Looney Tunes cartoon itself. They come up with some wacky new gimmick, think THIS one can’t fail, turn it on, and it catastrophically blows up in their face. “BEEP BEEP!” says the elusive audience, and zips into the horizon.

Thus, the inspiration. WB’s latest package from the Acme factory is called, fittingly enough, Coyote Vs. Acme — where it’s presumed by its title that Wile E. Coyote (being the Super Genius he is) will finally realize there’s something off about the products he keeps ordering. So is this a legal drama where the Coyote takes the company to court? All we have is the title to go on, but….yeah, it’s probably that.

Variety reports that Jon and Josh Silberman have been hired by WB to come up with a script for Coyote Vs. Acme, and Chris McKay (The Lego Batman Movie) has signed on to serve as producer. Whether this project takes off, or plummets down a cliff with the sound of a long slide whistle, remains to be seen.
