"Up" Stays Up at Box Office with $44.3M in Second Week (UPDATED)


Disney/Pixar’s Up fended off box office newcomers in its second week of release, continuing to hold the #1 spot at the box office with an estimated $44.2 million in ticket sales. The number represents a very respectable 35% drop from its debut weekend, when many new releases typically drop 50% or more. New release The Hangover trailed close behind with an estimated $43.3 million box office take.

UPDATED June 8, 2009 4:04 PM ET: The final box office tallies show The Hangover scored a rare upset over Up, taking in $45 million in ticket sales vs. Up‘s $44.3 million. The flip-flop was due to strong box office for The Hangover on Sunday.
