The series known as Shantae has been one that has been going on for much longer than people believe. The original game actually was on the Game Boy Color during the very end of its run, and as a result, very few people got to play it. But, the game series continued and most recently had a major debut on modern consoles via The Seven Sirens game. But, for those who have wanted to see what the original was all about, you’re going to get your wish soon.
As noted by Wayforward, the original GBC title of Shantae will be getting a physical version to buy for Nintendo Switch and more in a few months.
You asked for it, you got it! The original GBC Shantae will be returning as a reproduction cart from @LimitedRunGames, available to preorder this September! Additionally, the game will be coming to Switch both physically and digitally! pic.twitter.com/AlMc3nga9R

Furthermore, ComicBook.com and more are reporting that the game Shante: Risky’s Revenge – Directors Cut will also be coming to the Nintendo Switch and to Xbox One.
This is a big win for the franchise for a whole host of reasons. One, the return of the original game will give players the chance to fully appreciate the rise of Shantae as a character. Second, these two games could drive more sales to 1/2 Genie Hero and Seven Sirens, as well as drum up interest for a 6th core title that Wayforward has noted they’re wanting to make.
It also could lead to a remaster of the original game, which Wayforward has ALSO said they want to make.
As if that wasn’t enough, it’s also possible that this could be the excuse and momentum that Wayforward needs to make an anime of the beloved half-genie character. The Seven Sirens title brought cutscenes to the franchise for the first time and they were praised for their quality.
Either way you look at it, the future of Shantae does seem to be looking bright, and these new physical releases will make it shine all the brighter.
