Tuca & Bertie Third Season Trailer Is Out

Whoa — wasn’t prepared for this. Given how typically LONG seasons of Adult Swim shows take to come out, it’s quite jarring to see what appears to be nearly complete footage from Season 3 of Tuca & Bertie, given that the season was only confirmed last August. In fact, there’s no “nearly” about it — it IS complete, with an announced premiere date of July 10.

“I can’t wait for everyone to catch up on all the latest calamity and soul-searching from these birds,” says creator Lisa Hanawalt. “Season three is packed with romance, chronic pain, ambition, large ducks, lustful trees, and hungry snakes!”

She’s not kidding about the trees. One of the weirdest aspects of Tuca & Bertie’s world is that trees happen to be fully sentient, moving beings with busy lives, and yet they still fully look like trees, with no facial features other than a tiny mouth through which they can slurp convenience store slushies or make out with Tuca (warning: this happens in the below trailer).

The Tuca & Bertie of Tuca & Bertie are a neurotic, put-upon underdog (underbird?) prone to anxiety issues and a loud, proud party toucan constantly getting into trouble. The most recent season saw Bertie taking therapy sessions to calm her neuroses, while Tuca found herself unexpectedly tied down by a steady girlfriend. They also celebrated holidays that vaguely resembled ones in the real world but not completely.

Tuca & Bertie stars Tiffany Haddish as the toucan, Ali Wong as the thrush, Steven Yeun as whatever bird Speckle is meant to be, and a host of other characters played by Nicole Byer, Richard E. Grant, Reggie Watts and Pamela Adlon. Lisa Hanawalt created the show and still executive-produces it, along with Raphael Bob-Waksberg, Noel Bright, Steven A. Cohen, Haddish and Wong.

In a few short days, HBO Max will finally unlock streaming rights to Tuca & Bertie, though at the moment that only seems to apply to the seasons that have premiered on AS. Season 2 will appear on HBO Max June 24, and episodes of Season 3 will be available there the day after they premiere on cable. AS has also obtained international rights to the series. Keep watching so we get a Season 4!
