A Treasure Trove Of Shovel Knight Coming To Nintendo Switch

We’ve only got a few hours left before Nintendo finally tells us what their Switch’s launch lineup will be like. The Nintendo Switch press conference begins January 12 at 11 PM Eastern, 8 PM Pacific. We’ve had at least one game confirmed already. Yacht Club Games decided to get a jump on everybody else and reveal that their famous knight with a shovel is having his game ported to the Switch — but that’s not all.

The upcoming release is titled “Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove” and will consist of everything Shovel Knight-related that’s been put out so far. The original game and the two expansions, Plague of Shadows and Specter of Torment (yet to be released), plus a two-player local cooperative mode (previously only available by using the rare Shovel Knight amiibo on Wii U), a four-player battle mode, a new campaign centered around King Knight and a “body-swap” mode that swaps the armor of Shovel Knight and Shield Knight.

What if you already own Shovel Knight for PS4, XBox One or PC? Will you still get these updates for free like Yacht Club promised? According to them, you will. But henceforth, the original game and the two expansions will be sold separately (unless they’re in a special package like this one). When asked why, Yacht Club said that the game had simply gotten ‘too big” and that “It’s difficult for many players out there to find everything or even know that these campaigns exist. We believe that providing standalone versions will provide better entry points for different types of players and allow more people to continue enjoying each adventure on their next favorite platform.” Um, yeah, but you know what players like even better? Getting stuff for free.

One thing everyone can agree on is that, after almost three years, pretty much everything that can be done with one Shovel Knight game has been done to it. So when can we hope for something new, Shovel Knight-y or otherwise? Yacht Club says they are working at the present time on a new title to be unveiled later this year, but aren’t ready to speak about it.
