Disney and Pixar released the posters for Toy Story 4 this morning. Long before they were revealed, the first thing we heard about this sequel was its plot synopsis: “Woody searches for Bo Peep.” The cowboy’s girlfriend had been unceremoniously kicked offscreen for the majority of Toy Story 3, her absence explained by a solemn Woody saying the Davis family sold her to someone else years ago.
A lot of people online are acting surprised to see Bo Peep again, as one of the posters is hers, but if they didn’t know by now, they weren’t paying attention. There IS something surprising about her we didn’t know, though. Check THIS out.
It was at this point Disney revealed the subtitle for the movie. TOY STORY 4: THE LAST JEDI
I guess it’s open for debate on what exactly Bo Peep is, but the first two films gave the impression she was part of a porcelain lamp. In other words, not technically a toy. The Toy Story 4 teaser introduced a spork who’s been turned INTO a toy with some pipe cleaners. It’s my theory this aspect of toy existence gets expanded upon with Bo, who was treated as a toy by Andy.
Also, if you look closely, Bo didn’t have three sheep — she had one three-headed sheep. Once you see it you can’t unsee it.
Until now I had assumed Bo Peep’s clothing was also porcelain and part of her design, and would never come off. But as you can see, she has Lucasfilmed herself, complete with a pun-tastic Bo Staff. What exactly happened here?
“Bo’s taken control of her own destiny,” says Toy Story 4 director Josh Cooley. “While Woody was watching Andy grow up, Bo gathered dust until she took it upon herself to head out into the world. And when Woody shows up, they can’t believe that they’ve found each other again.”
So Bo wasn’t sold — she escaped?? This gets crazier by the sentence. And he still hasn’t explained the clothes. Toy Story 4 comes to theaters June 21…in the meantime, you can watch Bo Peep in action in this short Twitter video.
