Tis The Season For Delays: Cyberpunk 2077 Slips To September

A mere two days ago, another delay was announced for Final Fantasy 7 Remake. This one added another month to the wait time, pushing it to April 10. Yoshinori Kitase, producer of the game, said “We are making this tough decision in order to give ourselves a few extra weeks to apply final polish to the game and to deliver you with the best possible experience.”

If you had a feeling this was a harbinger of things to come, your gut instincts were right…because just this morning CD Projekt Red issued another delay for THEIR most anticipated game, Cyberpunk 2077. Here’s the message from Marcin Iwinski and Adam Badowski, heads of the studio:

“Cyberpunk 2077 won’t make the April release window and we’re moving the launch date to September 17, 2020.

“We are currently at a stage where the game is complete and playable, but there’s still work to be done. Night City is massive — full of stories, content and places to visit, but due to the sheer scale and complexity of it all, we need more time to finish playtesting, fixing and polishing. We want Cyberpunk 2077 to be our crowning achievement for this generation and postponing launch will give us the precious months we need to make the game perfect.

“Expect more regular updates on progress as we get closer to the new release date.”

There’s more: Cyberpunk’s multiplayer mode won’t be ready at launch, nor will it be ready for months afterward. In fact, you’ll probably own a Playstation 5 by the time it’s patched in. CDPR expects it to be ready sometime “after 2021.” We’re not kidding.

“Given the expected release of Cyberpunk 2077 in September, and frankly speaking of the series of events we expect to occur after that date, 2021 appears unlikely as a release date for the Cyberpunk multiplayer,” said Nowakowski during a recent investor Q&A.

If The Witcher 3 is any indication, Cyberpunk 2077 should be an amazing game. This, of course, is assuming we get it before the actual apocalypse. The new release date is September 17.
