When it comes to video games that defined the 2000’s, games that come to mind include the original “Halo” trilogy, “Wii Sports”, “Guitar Hero”, “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time”, “Kingdom Hearts”, and the original two “Sims” games. “The Sims” was originally released in 2000, and it’s sequel “The Sims 2” released in 2004, both becoming acclaimed video game icons of the decade.
The popularity of the Sims quickly replaced EA’s other “simulation” series of the era (notably the various “Sim City” games). Instead of building a city, EA’s “Sims” game allowed you to build a neighborhood and manage the people that live in it. You could decide who your Sims marry, what careers they pursue, and even killing them on a whim.
Now, in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the original Sims game, publisher EA is releasing new bundles of the two original “Sims” games!
Here’s the trailer:
“The Sims Legacy Collection” includes “The Sims” and the following expansion packs:
- Livin’ Large
- House Party
- Hot Date
- Vacation
- Unleashed
- Superstar
- Makin’ Magic.
- and “The Sims 4 Throwback Fit Kit” (tacked on as a bonus)
“The Sims 2 Legacy Collection” includes “The Sims 2” and the following expansion packs:
- University
- Nightlife
- Open for Business
- Pets
- Bon Voyage
- Seasons
- FreeTime
- Apartment Life
- Holiday Party Pack
- Family Fun Stuff
- Glamour Life Stuff
- Happy Holiday Stuff
- Celebration! Stuff
- H&M Fashion Stuff
- Teen Style Stuff
- Kitchen & Bath Interior Design Stuff
- Mansion & Garden Stuff
- and “The Sims 4: Grunge Revival Kit” (again, tacked on as a bonus)
Fans might notice the “Sims 2: IKEA” expansion is missing (probably due to rights issues). Their of course was a “Sims 3” and a “Sims 4”, but they never matched the “pop culture” status of the original two Sims games. “The Sims 4” became “free to play” back in 2022 (though it’s expansions have to still be purchased). And there’s still no word on when we’ll get a “Sims 5” (though do we even need a new Sims game with the re-release of the iconic original games?).
“The Sims” and “The Sims 2” Legacy Bundles are now available on PC (either via Steam, Epic or EA’s own game store).
