The Proud Family Resurrection Confirmed For Disney+

the proud family

Rumors swirled last fall of a Proud Family revival on Disney+, and today the streamer confirmed they are true. Penny and her family are coming back with The Proud Family: Louder And Prouder, a continuation of the 2000s cartoon, now in production.

Unlike DuckTales, which was a radical reinvention of the concept with a new cast and art style, The Proud Family will be returning as if it never left. The plots will be the same, the designs will be the same and the cast will be the same, including Kyla Pratt as Penny, Tommy Davidson as Oscar, Paula Jai Parker as Trudy, Payton as Suga Mama, Karen Malina White as Dijonay Jones, Soleil Moon Frye as Zoey Howzer and Alisa Reyes as LaCienega Boulevardez. Cedric the Entertainer is also on board.

“In our minds, the show never really went away, as we still had tons of stories left to tell,” says creator Bruce W. Smith and executive producer Ralph Farquhar. “It’s the perfect time to bring back this show, and we can’t wait to take fans, old and new alike, on this journey with us.”

This would normally be the part of the article where I fill space with my own personal feelings about the series, but…I’ve never seen any episode of The Proud Family. I did not have cable at the time, it did not air on broadcast (to my knowledge), and I would typically only make the effort to seek out cable cartoons if they were getting good buzz.

Proud Family was in the background of pop culture while Spongebob, Invader Zim and Kim Possible hogged the spotlight. The only time the show got any attention online was when it dared to make an anti-Napster episode, which earned it much derision from the college-age crowd I hung with. Not even the influence of Penny Proud could halt the erosion of the music industry, though.

So is Proud Family any good? You tell me — I wouldn’t know. What I do know is that we’re getting more of it. The show’s return date to Disney+ has not been announced, but the existing episodes are on the service.
