All’s Atwell that ends well when Tomb Raider: The Legend Of Lara Croft returns to Netflix next month for its second and final season. Thanks to the full trailer released a few hours ago, we now know what the main theme and Macguffin is going to be. it’s going to be masks, and lots of them! Also we can finally confirm Lara punches a shark.
Now that Lara has gotten over her stubborn insistence on working alone (that was her character arc for Season One), she’s teaming up with her old friend Sam to investigate the theft of African Orisha masks, each believed — at least on this show — to bestow a different power. They indeed do, and it becomes the kind of problem Lara can’t just shoot with two pistols.
“Lara’s thrilling new adventure takes her around the globe as she delves deeper into the hidden secrets of Orisha history,” says Netflix, “dodging the machinations of a dangerous and enigmatic billionaire who wants the masks for herself, while discovering these relics contain dark secrets and a power that defies logic. Power that may, in fact, be divine.”
Hayley Atwell returns to voice Lady Croft, Karen Fukuhara plays Sam, O-T Fagbenle voices Eshu, Allen Maldonado will be Zip, and Earl Baylon plays Jonah Maiava. The series is brought to life by Powerhouse Animation, with Brad Graeber serving there as executive producer. This last season was written in its entirety by Tasha Huo, who also oversaw the whole project.
This is not the end of Lara on television. Amazon Prime is developing a live-action series with Sophie Turner in the role of Lara and Phoebe Waller-Bridge as showrunner. That show begins production next January for an unrevealed release date. Both shows were in development concurrently, and the live-action and animated rights to Tomb Raider are separate things.
The second season of Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft premieres on Netflix December 11, 2025.
