The expansion pass for Pokemon Sword and Shield was first announced last January, with two new regions specified: the Isle of Armor in the summer, and the Crown Tundra in the winter. Now we have a specific date for the Isle of Armor DLC (it’s very soon), plus more specific details on what to expect when we get there.

When you set foot on the isle you’ll gain a new Legendary Pokemon, Kubfu. It will evolve into the fearsome Urshifu during your journey, but Urshifu actually has two different forms, and the one you get will depend on the route you take. You’ll be using Kubfu (and eventually Urshifu) to battle through the Tower of Two Fists, which branches off into the Tower of Darkness and the Tower of Waters. The direction you pick will either result in a Dark/Fighting Type or a Water/Fighting Type.

A new region comes with new Pokemon to collect, though some will seem familiar to you. You’ll find the Galarian version of Slowbro here, who wears its shell on its arm instead of its tail…and it’s also poisonous, so it can afford to be lazy. Gigantamax forms of Venusaur and Blastoise can also be encountered on the island.

Of special interest is a machine called the Cram-O-Matic that will let you take four items you’re not interested in and combine them into one you want. If you find an item called Max Soup, you can use it on a Pokemon that normally isn’t capable of Gigantamaxing….and poof, it can get big now! Also look for the new Tutor Moves Burning Jealousy and Grassy Glide. They do what they suggest…the former causes heavy Fire damage and the latter works especially well in grassy areas.

That’s all coming before the month is through. The Isle of Armor will hold its grand opening in Pokemon Sword and Shield on June 17. But we did learn a little more about the Crown Tundra coming this fall….read on for Nintendo’s official description, as well as the new trailer that was released today.

The second area unlocked by the Expansion Pass is the snow-swept realm of the Crown Tundra. In this frigid yet beautiful landscape—with its jagged winter mountains and shining, silvery landscape—people live in small communities where they support and rely on one another. A man named Peony will appoint the player as the leader of his exploration team in the Crown Tundra and task them with investigating the reaches of this frozen land. Players will also be able to explore the depths of the Pokémon Dens seen during Max Raid Battles. What’s more, it seems several previously unseen Legendary Pokémon make the Crown Tundra their home.
