The “Game of the Year” Awards are returning, with this year’s nominees being announced today. 2023 is going down as one of the best years in video games, going by the numerous critically acclaimed video games released this past year (with several having review scores above 90 on Metacritic)!
The “Game of the Year” nominees this year include:
Alan Wake 2 (Remedy Entertainment/Epic Games Publishing)
Baldur’s Gate 3 (Larian Studios)
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (Insomniac Games/SIE)
Resident Evil 4 (Capcom)
Super Mario Bros. Wonder (Nintendo EPD/Nintendo)
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (Nintendo EPD/Nintendo)
With so many well regarded games, and only 6 slots in the “Game of the Year” category, the biggest storyline may be the contenders who did NOT make the cut, to be in contention for the main “Game of the Year” prize, including stand out video games like Starfield (Bethesda Game Studios/Bethesda Softworks), Diablo IV (Blizzard Entertainment), and Final Fantasy XVI (Square Enix).
“Alan Wake 2” and “Baldur’s Gate 3” scored the most nominations for a game (both with 8 nominations, including “Game of the Year”) . Nintendo scored the most nominations per publisher (with 15 nominations).
You can participate in choosing the winner by voting at “thegameawards.com” (up through December 6th). The 10th annual Game Awards show will stream live on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2023, across more than 30 platforms including YouTube, Twitch, and Facebook.
