The Bad Guys are coming back for Christmas, but Santa won’t be pleased, because they’re still bad! A 22-minute Netflix special, subtitled A Very Bad Holiday, has been in development for a while and will make its debut at the end of this month. A new trailer released today confirmed the date.
The special is a prequel, explaining the characters’ “reset.” They haven’t learned how to be good yet! “There’s nothing the Bad Guys love more than Christmas morning — because while everyone is home opening presents, it’s the perfect time to execute their city-wide holiday heist,” Netflix says. “But when Christmas is unexpectedly canceled, the Bad Guys must do the unthinkable: reignite the city’s holiday spirit by giving instead of taking.”
Netflix added The Bad Guys to their movie library one year ago, where it charted in their Top Ten for a month — probably inspiring the streamer to order this special. It will be directed by Emmy winner Bret Haaland (The Penguins of Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness). Haaland is also serving as executive producer alongside Katherina Nolfi (Abominable and the Invisible City).
Bad news on the voice acting front — this special didn’t have the budget to bring back Sam Rockwell, Mark Maron, Anthony Ramos, Craig Robinson or Awkwafina. Instead Michael Godere (The Affair) will play Wolf, Ezekiel Ajeigbe (Outer Banks) will voice Shark, Raul Ceballos (The Boss Baby: Back in the Crib) will replace Piranha, Chris Diamantopoulos (American Dad) will be Snake and Mallory Low (Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles) will play Tarantula. Zehra Fazal (Dew Drop Diaries) rounds out things as Tiffany Fluffit, who Lily Singh played in the movie.
Whether The Bad Guys can pull off their Holiday Heist remains to be seen. You can catch this quintuplet of trouble when the special premieres exclusively on Netflix November 30.
