Thandie Newton Joins Westworld Cast

Thandie Newton has joined the cast of the HBO pilot “Westworld” and will play the part of the whorehouse madam Maeve Millay [patterned after the role of Miss Carrie – played by Majel Barrett – from the original Michael Crichton 1973 sci-fi movie tale of a fantasy robot theme park gone astray. Newton joins a cast consisting of Ed Harris in the signature Yul Brynner role of The Man in Black, the ultimate bad guy in the story as well as Anthony Hopkins and Evan Rachel Wood in the other lead roles.

Crichton passed away in 2008 but was the writer of several sci-fi classics beginning with “The Andromeda Strain” and going throughout the “Jurassic Park” franchise. In “Westworld”, he depicts a fantasy camp gone wrong as wealthy people on holiday select a wild west theme for their fantasy robot theme park adventure – only to have a robot malfunction and go rogue. The HBO series – being produced by JJ Abrams – will expand that concept to the world’s entire existence being manipulated by artificial intelligence madness in a “Stepford Wives”-like manner.
