Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem

If you’ve been wondering if there’ll be a sequel to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, that was answered months ago with a “yes” — what we didn’t know was when we could expect it. Paramount announced this morning Mutant Mayhem II, or whatever they end up calling it, is being prepped for a Fall 2026 release date.

Seth Rogen’s Point Gray Pictures is once again producing the picture and Jeff Rowe is returning to direct. No one knows at this early point what the plot will be, but if you stick through the credits of the first film, you can get a hint as to who the bad guy is. (You might not even have to do that — it’s not that hard to guess.)

While 2026 isn’t exactly tomorrow, the Ninja Turtles will have plenty to do between now and then. The next TMNT animated series will be an extension of the film, with the same super-teenage versions of Don, Leo, Raph and Mike. The movie cast (Nicolas Cantu, Brady Noon, Micah Abbey, and Shamon Brown Jr.) will also supply their voices. The laborious detailed CG-hand-drawn hybrid animation isn’t in the budget, but they compensate with a nifty 2D scratchy look:

There will also be a Mutant Mayhem video game on consoles and PC later this year, and a port of the 2017 arcade game (which uses the versions of the Turtles from two reboots ago).

If you had asked Kid Me if the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles would still be around thirty years later, I would have scoffed “No way, nobody will have heard of them by then.” But it’s never happened — their longevity is incredible. Nickelodeon have been great stewards of the property, reinventing them every few years — and NONE of the versions have been terrible! It remains a great series, both for kids and adults.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is streamable on Paramount+.
