While its rival networks have just barely begun plotting their direction for the 2020-2021 season, The CW has been moving at Barry Allen speed. Last week, they renewed ALL their shows for next year, and today, they gave the stamp of approval for two additional shows, one of which was mentioned in the headline.
If you’ve been watching the Crisis On Infinite Earths crossover, or you saw the crossover before it, you’re familiar with Tyler Hoechlin in the Superman tights and Elizabeth Tulloch as the love of his life, Lois. Reaction to their performance as the couple has been positive, and viewers will be happy to learn we’ll see much more next season, as “Superman And Lois” becomes its own series.
The other show The CW picked up is — I kid you not — a reboot of the campy 90s series Walker Texas Ranger. We would call it doomed, but it’s got Jared Padalecki as Walker, and his fans will follow him anywhere.
So between those two and the 13 shows renewed last week, their entire season next year is pretty much locked up, right? …..You’d think so, but The CW actually has yet to announce their pilot slate. Based on past behavior, we expect them to announce five pilots, pick three of them, and then somehow find a way to Tetris that massive lineup into their schedule.
Add to this one more thing: Green Arrow And The Canaries, a spinoff of Arrow that will be airing a backdoor pilot as one of Arrow’s final episodes. You can check it out next week and see if it’s good, but it may not matter what you think, as The CW has never seen a Berlantiverse show that it wouldn’t greenlight. Oh yeah, and we still don’t know what they plan to do with Stargirl after its first season airs in the spring.
By our count, this would equal twenty shows altogether. Good luck with that schedule, guys.
