The second season of My Adventures With Superman expanded the Man of Steel’s cast of supporting characters by introducing his cousin, Kara/Supergirl. The recently announced third season will continue this tradition as it was announced at Comic-Con that none other than Superboy will join the cast. That is, the teenage clone of Superman and not the younger version of Clark himself (which would have been kind of redundant given the character here is rather young already), or Jon, his Lois’ biological child (again, too young!). A first look at the Superboy design is included below in the article.
Superboy (also known as Kon-El or Connor Kent), debuited in the comics back in 1993, during the infamous “Death of Superman” story arc. He was a genetic clone of Superman created by Project Cadmus and one of the new Supermen to surface following the Man of Steel’s apparent death at the hands of Doomsday. Interestingly enough, other such Supermen have also appeared or have been teased on the show so far, including John Irons (Steel) and Hank Henshaw (who could become Cyborg Superman any minute now).
Taking into account the fact the show does offer some rather unique twists to classic stories, it should be interesting to see how or why Superboy shows up next season. Regardless, it is nice seeing the series becoming more of a Superman Family show, instead of resorting to bringing in special guest-stars from the greater DC Universe, who don’t exactly have the same kind of connection to Superman.
My Adventures With Superman debuted in 2023 on Adult Swim (despite initially being announced for the Cartoon Network), where it aired its second season as well, though as part of the Toonami block programming this year. Season 3 is currently in production with no exact time of arrival known at the moment, but it should be worth the wait. The show stars Jack Quaid as Clark Kent/Superman, Alice Lee as Lois Lane and Ishmael Sahid as Jimmy Olsen. Max Mittleman and Kiana Madeira have also been added to the cast, as Lex Luthor and Supergirl, respectively. No word yet on who will provide the voice of Superboy.
The first two seasons of My Adventures With Superman are available to stream on Max.
