Last week we were left with a major cliffhanger and this episode finally answers the question of what’s the deal with the queen. This week was the beginning of the show’s climactic battle scene. Let’s recap all the plot twists and look at what worked and didn’t work.

Our episode begins where the last one ended with Fione finding out the queen had a dark secret when she sees the reflection of a monster in the mirror. The “queen” reveals that in actuality, she was a demon in disguise who impersonated and killed the real queen. There is still the question of if the queen seen in flashbacks was the real queen or just an imposter. If the latter, maybe the real queen isn’t as much of a jerk as the imposter. She reveals her true demonic form. The demon reveals her goals were to cause chaos and death by starting this war with the Empire. Meanwhile, Cecil meets a Kingdom official wearing the Thinker’s famous headcap and starts killing knights left and right. Cecil calls the guy a traitor, but he says he is doing such under the “queen’s” orders. This villain attempts to kill Fione when the plot takes a sudden twist.

Fione whips out a baseball bat and whacks the guy like a piƱata. The long foreshadowed twist of Fione being this world’s Harley counterpart finally happened. She dons Harley’s makeup and rallies the troops to deal with the demonic fake queen. The demon summons an army of skeletons to fight the Kingdom and the final battle commences. After several minutes of a Suicide Squad show without the titular characters appearing, they finally make a dramatic entrance and participate in the final battle.

The final battle battle turns out to be Suicide Squad versus Suicide Squad as it turns out that Enchantress’ Squad is under orders from the demon. It turns out King Shark did not get executed and he gets a rematch with Killer Croc in an over the top sky surfing battle scene. Clayface takes on Katana because swords can’t kill people made out out of clay. Finally, Harley has a rematch with Enchantress. The queen threatens Enchantress and it is made clear that Enchantress at least is doing this under coercion. Her squadmates might also be not so willing to participate, but the show hasn’t really delved into Killer Croc or Katana’s headspace as clearly. Harley points out that Enchantress intentionally used magic to save the lives of her Squad a few episodes back.

Deadshot shoots some skeletons and it turns out that Cecil has kinda sorta learned how to use guns. He kills some skeletons, but almost kills Deadshot, who reprimands him for his poor marksmanship. Peacemaker doesn’t get to do much but he does drape an American flag over his back and utter the best and funniest line, which is inappropriate for a family website so I can’t repeat it. Harley also helps fend off a few skeletons after failing to make a dent in Enchantress’ shield. She again uses the magic power she used a couple of times in earlier episodes. Deadshot is skeptical that magic is real despite all the evidence to the contrary. Harley puts a magic crystal in her gun and shoots it at Enchantress, still not able to defeat her. It turns out that someone unexpected and almost forgotten comes to the rescue. Arty, the adorable baby dragon who’s been a background character for a few episodes has conveniently grown up to be a big dragon and takes on Enchantress with a fire breath. The episode ends with the twist of Clayface finding another person who looks like Entrantress trapped in a pod. Is this implying the Enchantress Harley’s Squad is fighting is a fake?

Well, we are on the final battle and the main villain and it turns out the villain is a generic demon with a generic “killing is fun” motivation. Enchantress, Killer Croc, and Katana (who might actually be fake doppelgangers) have been one note obstacles and the fantasy world is still the most paint by numbers fantasy out there. At this point, it is safe to say this series is “okay,” but not particularly great, like most anime produced by Jason Demarco. It’s about on par with Ninja Kamui. Anyway, next week is the finale and let’s see if the finale sways my view of the show.
