Brooklyn Nine-Nine may be winding down, but star actress Stephanie Beatriz isn’t going anywhere…at least if you’re an animation fan. She’s been trying out a lot of voice-acting roles lately, and her largest is the lead character of Encanto, Disney’s animated movie due out this fall.

Encanto is a hidden Colombian village full of magic! Everyone there was born with a specific enchanted power. One can levitate objects, one can make flowers appear anywhere, one has superstrength and can lift two tables at once (and has already amassed a large volume of fanart). Beatriz plays Mirabel, the only resident of Encanto who has no magic to speak of. This amounts to a social annoyance at first, but eventually becomes a major problem when Mirabel is the ONLY ONE who can save Encanto from destruction.

The animation community seems to have a good idea where the plot trajectory of this is heading: “Mirabel manages to figure out how to save Encanto without any powers, proving her own worth and the fact that it doesn’t matter how powerful you are, what matters is on the inside and stuff. Then it will turn out that not only did she have powers all along, she’ll instantly blossom into the most magical resident there, negating the entire moral of the movie.” They’re probably not wrong, but…movies can be enjoyable even if you know where they’re going.

“Mirabel is a really funny, loving character who also deeply yearns for something more,” says Beatriz. “She’s also not afraid to stand up for what she knows is right—something I love and relate to very much. I’m Colombian on my father’s side, and playing this role fills me with immense pride. As a Disney kid, I’d burn through my VHS tapes and adored every single magical story that the world of Disney introduced me to. I learned in those that stories that anything is possible, especially if you believe in magic and the goodness rooted deep inside us all.”

We know this trailer is several days old, but (1) we hadn’t covered it yet and (2) the only fresh news to mention today is a choice between the announcement of a live-action Fairly Oddparents series, and a set photo from the live-action Little Mermaid movie. And….ehhhh, we donwanna.

Disney’s Encanto will debut in theaters November 24.
