Star Trek Strange New Worlds Gets Series Order At CBS All Access

Star Trek Strange New Worlds

What started off as a simple attempt to reboot the Star Trek franchise for the new modern age of television has now become a franchise all its own. Variety and others are reporting that yet another Star Trek series is coming to CBS All Access. The streaming service is already home to Star Trek Discovery and Picard, and now will be home to Star Trek Strange New Worlds.

The premise of this series is rather simple, it takes place on the USS Enterprise 10 years before James T. Kirk is Captain, and it’ll once again feature  Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike, Rebecca Romijn as Number One and Ethan Peck as Science Officer Spock. All of whom had made their debut in the Star Trek universe (in regards to the modern series) in Star Trek Discovery Season 2. Their impact was immediately felt and fans clamored for a spinoff series to be focused on them, CBS apparently agreed.

The title of the show is of course a reference to the theme of the original two Star Trek series, “To Explore Strange New Worlds…”, and will indeed follow the Enterprise as they go and explore these new worlds and offer yet another look into the massive universe that is Star Trek.

It’s a very curious thing to be sure that this is happening, but it yet again shows the desire from fans to not just want more Star Trek, but to go back to the days of the original. Pike was the Captain before Kirk, and via the original series and the J.J Abrams movies we got to see Pike in action more, but rarely as the focus. With Strange New Worlds, that appears to be changing.

This series brings the Star Trek shows on CBS All Access to 5 when you include the “Star Trek Shorts” as well as the upcoming animated series, “Star Trek Lower Decks”.
