South Park: Streaming Wars Set For June 1

south park streaming wars

If you blinked, you might have missed the latest season of South Park, which ran on Comedy Central two months ago and lasted just six episodes. It’s the shortest season the show has ever had, if you don’t consider the “Pandemic Specials” a season. Perhaps these Paramount+ “special events” are spreading Matt and Trey thin.

The streamer announced the third one this morning, providing little details and a clip lasting around three seconds. If we had to guess, we’d say the special is definitely still a work in progress, given the creators’ notorious tendency to do everything at the last minute. There IS this description, though: “Cartman locks horns with his mom in a battle of wills, while an epic conflict unfolds and threatens South Park’s very existence.” And it must have something to do with streaming, meaning this could get meta.

If you haven’t watched the new season, or you weren’t aware there was one until now, you might want to find it and see the episodes before June hits, because we assume the events of that season will continue in this special. For example, Cartman lives in a hot dog now.

After Ms. Cartman gets a job in real estate (joining every cartoon mother who has ever briefly held a job in real estate, which is all of them now), Cartman becomes furious. Believing Ms. Cartman should be focusing all her time on HIM, he purposely sabotages her career by opening a rival business and selling all the available homes before she could. The fact that the Cartmans need money from the job to live never occurs to him, not even when they lose their own house at the end of the episode. They’re forced to find a cheaper one, which is a former restaurant in the shape of a hot dog, so…Cartman lives in a hot dog now.

Will Cartman get out of the hot dog? Or is he in a hot dog forever? We can possibly find out when South Park: Streaming Wars premieres on Paramount+ June 1.
