2020 was a year full of surprises from start to finish, but one of the biggest ones was the success of the Sonic the Hedgehog movie. This was a film that was almost DOA because of the initial 3D model that was approved by SEGA and the film studio behind the movie for Sonic. It was…awful. So, the fans went and rallied for a better model to be made and thus they delayed the film, moved it to 2020, released it with a MUCH better model…and it went on to become the best-grossing video game movie of all time. And now fans are eagerly waiting for the aptly named Sonic The Hedgehog 2.
Ben Schwartz, who is the voice of Sonic the Hedgehog, admitted to ComicBookMovie.com that he has read the full script for the second movie, and that he thinks it’s “great”. Furthermore, he noted in that interview that filming will begin in a few months. This is good because the movie is slated to release next year so filming absolutely needs to start soon.
Of course, some of the biggest things that fans are looking forward to with this new movie is the arrival of Tails and Knuckles. Both of which have been confirmed in their own ways by the team. Furthermore, at the end of the first movie, Jim Carry’s Dr. Robotnik went and changed his look to appear much more like his video game counterpart, so fans have that to look forward to as well.
It’s also possible that we’ll go and get a look at Sonic’s world (as he was trapped on Earth in the first film) so there are a lot of ways the script can go and resonate with fans like the first one did. Only time will tell how it’ll all go down though.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will arrive in theaters on April 8, 2022.
