Needless to say, there were a lot of surprises in 2020, both good and bad. One of the biggest of the GOOD surprises though was the surprisingly high quality of the Sonic The Hedgehog movie. This was a film that almost was DOA due to the original character model of the Sonic (it was lanky and looked more like a monkey than the titular hedgehog), but after a delay to fix everything, they brought it back and it was a hit. So much so that it’s now the highest-grossing video game movie ever, and Sonic The Hedgehog 2 was announced shortly after.
Once pandemic restrictions allowed the movie to go into production, the team of Jeff Fowler and more went to work in order to bring the second movie to life. And now, on Twitter, Fowler says that production has wrapped! Here’s his post:

Obviously, that doesn’t give us a lot, but it does give hope that maybe things will start being shown for the new film. Because as of right now, we only have a potential synopsis based on a copyright claim that says the following:
“After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is ready for more freedom, and Tom and Maddie agree to leave him home while they go on vacation. But, no sooner are they gone, when Dr. Robotnik comes back, this time with a new partner, Knuckles, in search for an emerald that has the power to both build and destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with his own sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands.”
Knuckles and Tails are obviously the big additions to this movie, although we don’t know who is to voice Knuckles as of yet. Still, with this wrapping of filming, we might get an answer and a trailer for things soon!
