Tired of knowing next to nothing about Solo? After you watch this weekend’s new trailer from Lucasfilm, you’ll know….slightly more, but not enough! Why is that?
To borrow a phrase, “I’ve got a bad feeling about this.”™ No one really knows how this venture is going to perform, which is an odd thing to say about a heist movie starring a young Han Solo. That is the kind of long-desired prequel that fans could only experience in fanfiction and “Expanded Universe” novels until now. But the fact is, it’s going to be a crowded May and Disney could wind up competing against itself if Avengers: Infinity War has legs, to say nothing of Deadpool showing up between the two films.
Speaking of Infinity War, the hype for that film dwarfs that of Solo, and much of it is Disney’s fault. I’ve seen the latest Avengers movie promoted like crazy over the past nine months, while the below trailer marks just the second time I’ve seen the House of Mouse promote Solo. With all the stories of troubles on the set, the replacing of directors, and possible franchise fatigue from this thing showing up just six months after The Last Jedi…..
….add all that up, and we have no idea how this “Solo” venture is going to work out. It could be a good movie that finds a big audience, it could be a bad movie that finds a big audience, or it could be a bad movie that breaks a record for lowest grossing numbers in the franchise. We can’t predict the future, especially with so little information to work with. All we know at the moment is that the trailer looks neat, but that proves nothing.
It may not look like a lot, but does it have it where it counts? Solo opens May 25.The thread view count is
