Via the Associated Press, Skydance Media has named ousted former head of Pixar and Disney Animation, John Lasseter, to lead its newly formed animation division despite the allegations of inappropriate behavior he had exhibited with the women staff at Pixar which had forced him to leave Pixar and Disney. Lasseter’s 6-month sabbatical became permanent in June when the company decided to cut all ties with Lasseter who spent the remainder of the year as a consultant.
The announcement was harshly criticized by Time’s Up, the organization founded to combat sexual harassment and gender inequality in Hollywood, who sees the move as allowing a frequent sexual abuser back into a position of power. Supposedly, Skydance said it had hired outside consultants to investigate the allegations against Lasseter before making its decision.
Skydance Media has co-produced and co-financed several films with Paramount Pictures including the Mission Impossible and Star Trek movies.
