Ask any Square fan, “What are the best games the studio has ever put out?” Secret of Mana, released in 1993 for SNES, is usually near the top of the list. Isn’t it time this classic got its day in the polygonally rendered high-resolution sun?
We’re totally getting it, people! Square Enix unveiled the new Secret of Mana early this morning. This is not a revisionist reimagining…this is a 100% faithful 3D recreation with models and environments true to the charming art of the original. The timeless musical score, one of Square’s best, has been rearranged in orchestral sound! And yup….it still supports three players at once.
Best of all, we’ll be getting it in 1/87th of the time it’ll take to get the FF7 remake. The new Secret of Mana is coming next February — a mere six months from now! The global release will be digital, but a disc version will exist — as part of an expensive PS4 Collectors Edition. It’s been announced for Japan; no word yet if other regions will get the goods pictured below. (Speaking as a Mana freak, this is one of the few bloated packages I would actually buy.)
Preordering the game on Steam or the Playstation Store will grant you extra DLC costumes for the characters, allowing you to run around in Moogle suits or tiger outfits. Secret of Mana is reborn February 15, 2018 for PS4, PS Vita and PC. Square’s press release follows the trailer.

Scheduled for global digital release next February 15, the beloved volume in the MANA series retains its long-held charm while incorporating improvements such as upgraded gameplay for modern platforms and a newly arranged musical score.
Originally released in 1993, Secret of Mana faithfully tells the story of Randi, Primm and Popoi as they battle a treacherous empire in order to reclaim the power of Mana and bring the world back to order.
Those who preorder from the PlayStation®Store will receive special character costumes: “Moogle Suit” for Randi, Primm and Popoi, “Tiger Two-Piece” for Primm and “Tiger Suit” for Randi and Popoi, as well as three PlayStation™Network avatars. Those who pre-purchase the game, or purchase the Day 1 Edition within one week of the launch on STEAM, will receive the three costumes as well as a downloadable wallpaper.
