SDCC2015: The Marvel Animation Presents Panel

Cort Lane (VP, current series Marvel Animation Studios), wearing a stylish Groot hat, was joined with Eric Radomski (SVP, production and creative director, animation) and Stephen Wacker (VP, current series Marvel Animation Studios) to lead San Diego Comic Con 2015’s Marvel Animation Presents panel.

Marvel's Avengers Ultron Revolution LogoAvengers Assemble, which is currently airing a five part Squadron Supreme epic, will end the season with the return of Thanos. The show has been renewed for a third season and will be re-titled Avengers: Ultron Revolution. Appropriately, Ultron will be back and, according to Wacker, will evolve into something more powerful. Other upcoming challenges for the Avengers will include Baron Zemo assembling a Masters of Evil and Kang traveling from the future in an attempt to save the past. New heroes will also be introduced such as the Vision, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, and Ms. Marvel. The Inhumans will be getting a redesign and appear on the show as well. With all these new heroes on the board, Civil War won’t be far behind, and the panel promised it’ll be an even more difficult challenge for the heroes than last season’s “Avengers Disassembled” arc.

Marvel Ultimate Spider-Man vs. Sinister Six LogoOver on Ultimate Spider-Man, Spidey is going to have his hands full dealing with the Contest of the Champions. The Grand Master pits a group of selected villains against the Collector and his heroes, with Spider-Man caught in the middle. The panel presented a clip of Spider-Man, Iron Man, and the Hulk facing off against Kraven the Hunter, Wendigo, and the Molten Man. While this could’ve served as the series finale, Ultimate Spider-Man is also getting more episodes, making it the longest running Marvel cartoon of all time. We will see further exploration of the Spider-Verse and more of the Miles Morales Spider-Man, Agent Venom, and Iron Spider as The Sinister Six return to menace Spider-Man. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. stars Iain De Caestecker and Elizabeth Henstridge will appear on the show, giving voice to their live-action characters Agent Fitz and Agent Simmons respectively.

The panel concluded by airing the entire first part of the Guardians of the Galaxy two-part pilot. This episode will be shown for the first time on September 5th and then both parts will premiere on September 26th on Disney XD.  As a lead-up to this, there will be 10 two-minute shorts highlighting who the characters are and where they come from that will air throughout August.  Guardians of the Galaxy will take the place of Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. as part of Disney XD’s the Marvel animated lineup.
