In recent weeks there have been rumors Warner Bros. was considering using Robert Pattinson as the next actor to play Batman. Now it’s official: Variety confirmed this morning Pattinson has been hired for the role. And to think, Twilight memes had finally died out.
To those dismayed by this choice, this is what you get when you recast Batman too many times in one short period. In 1989 WB had the killer choice of Michael Keaton. By 1997 they were reduced to using George Clooney.
Besides, when you think about it, it’s chins we’re casting, and Pattinson has a chin so sharp you could slice bread with it. When the superstitious, cowardly lot of Gotham sees that chin, they’ll run home to their mothers. We hope.
Pattinson will make his debut in “The Batman,” WB’s next Bat-centric movie slated for June 25, 2021. The film will be directed by Matt Reeves, most known for directing the last two “Planet of the Apes” movies.
It’ll be a while, not just before we see Batman, but before we see Pattinson again: the next movie on the Big Release Schedule with him in a role is “Tenet,” a film by Christopher Nolan set to open July 17, 2020.
