The season finale of Rick and Morty, which aired last October, ended in a huge cliffhanger and the statement that viewers would have to wait “a year and a half, or longer” for the conclusion. As aggravating as that sounded, it also seemed likely, since the wait from Season 1 to Season 2 of the show was just as long.
Turns out we couldn’t trust Mr. Poopybutthole after all. As discovered and reported by the AV Club, Dan Harmon recently spoke at Magic City Comic-Con in Miami, where he confirmed that Adult Swim was speeding up production on the series — and that the third season order was for 14 episodes, as opposed to the 10 that comprised seasons 1 and 2 (plus the pilot). Harmon said we could expect season 3 before the end of 2016. These words are spoken at the 10:24 mark below.
The Rick and Morty writing staff (which includes women this time, as Harmon promised) have confirmed that voice recording has begun on Season 3. Writer Jessica Gao tweeted a photo of her script for the new season’s third episode, along with the promise that it was going to knock the maleness off anyone who possessed those parts. With the kind of plots Rick and Morty typically has, time will tell if she meant this literally.
