Rick And Morty Season Five Premieres June 20

rick and morty

I wonder how many years it’s going to be until the next season of Rick and Morty…who wants to place their bets on 2023 — wait, it’s almost here??

Yes, indeed. The cushion of a 70-episode guarantee has allowed Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland to increase the efficiency of production to the point that we’re talking about Season 5 less than a year after the end of Season 4. As you can see from the new trailer released today, all the colors and inbetweens are in, and it’s just a matter of waiting a little longer…

We can speculate all day on what any of those random clips mean, but it’s THIS show, so it would mostly be a useless endeavor. We’ll just comment that it’s weird Adult Swim muted all the swears here, even the ones they can use on broadcast cable. ….Maybe THAT means something! Maybe this upcoming season has a subplot where the S-word has been banished from the universe and only silence comes out of your mouth when you say it. Sounds like a good episode…we’re looking forward to it.

Speaking of subplots, there HAS been some kind of continuity recently in the form of the two Beths. Beth was cloned in Season 4, and one Beth went off to have adventures in space while the other Beth stayed with her family. It’s still unknown which Beth left and which Beth stayed, and the most recent episode acted like it was about to reveal the truth, only to show that Rick himself doesn’t even know — he mixed up the labels on purpose. The trailer offers no new hints on the Beth situation.

This upcoming season premiere is such a big deal, Adult Swim is declaring June 20 Rick and Morty Day! According to them, it will be an “out-of-this-world celebration with sneak peeks, behind-the-scenes footage and special surprises across TV, digital and social.” We’ll let you know what AS secretes out. June 20 is the day the Smith saga continues.
