Remember when the waits between seasons of Rick and Morty were excruciatingly long? Not so anymore. We’ve just received word that the evil scientist and his unlucky grandson will be returning quicker than ever — one year after they left. The Season 6 premiere of Rick and Morty will air September 6, 2022, precisely 365 days after the Season 5 finale aired September 5, 2021.

Harmon and Roiland left things on a pretty drastic downer last year, revealing Rick’s true backstory and having Evil Morty return — and succeed. Can’t forget Mr. Poopybutthole’s devastating monologue either. Can the Smiths pick up the pieces and return things to the usual status quo? If they do, they will no doubt make lots of meta comments about how and why they’re doing that.

“It’s hard to overstate the impact of Rick and Morty. More than a hit show, it is truly a global phenomenon,” adds Michael Ouweleen, president of Adult Swim and Cartoon Network. “As we prepare to launch this soon-to-be iconic season, we will be giving fans a unique way to be part of the fun — so keep your eyes peeled.”

As for what happens THIS year, Adult Swim will only say this: “It’s season six and Rick and Morty are back! Pick up where we left them, worse for wear and down on their luck. Will they manage to bounce back for more adventures? Or will they get swept up in an ocean of piss!” That’s awfully specific, so we’re guessing the sea of urine is an inevitability.

We’re certain as we get closer to the Season 6 premiere date, we’ll have more information — and a trailer to watch. We’ll beam that into your brains when we get it. In the meantime, the existing five seasons of Rick and Morty air in regular rotation on Adult swim and can be seen anytime on HBO Max.
