PS5 Officially Confirmed, Coming Holiday 2020

Is the PS5 the name of Sony’s next console? When is it coming out?

The state of consoles right now is in a curious place. The Nintendo Switch is lighting up the sales charts, while Microsoft and Sony are prepping their next consoles. And today, Sony CEO Jim Ryan officially confirmed that the next Sony console will indeed be called the PS5.

“It’s nice to be able to say it,” he says to Wired. “Like a giant burden has been lifted from my shoulders.”

In regards to what you can expect from the console, here are some of the highlights:

– Ray tracing support is hardware based

– New SSD will help boot times, loading times and streaming

– Controller has now adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, new speakers, USB Type-C

The Holiday 2020 release date is interesting as next year is going to have many big name titles, many of which have already been figured to be coming to the new console in some capacity. Including The Last of Us Part 2, Final Fantasy VII Remake, and Cyberpunk 2077.
