Nintendo and Game Freak teased a major Pokemon Direct that would come today, and gamers everywhere were speculating on what was actually going to be shown off in the 20-minute video. The answer was the return of one franchie, and an expansion pass for Pokemon Sword and Shield.
First up, the Pokemon Company revealed that Pokemon Rescue Team DX, a remastered and enhanced version of the original Pokemon Rescue Team games all the way back from 2006 is coming to the Nintendo Switch on March 6th. This game will let you once again be a person who is transformed into a Pikachu, and must become a part of a team to help other Pokemon around the world. The game teases much of the old content, but with some new twists, including Mega Evolutions, new Pokemon appearances from ones that weren’t in the original, and more.
But the big content reveal was without a doubt that an Expansion Pass for Pokemon Sword and Shield is coming. Unlike previous entries where a new “version” of the game was released like Pokemon Crystal or the Ultra Sun and Moon games, the Expansion Pass will feature fully unique content called “The Isle of Armor” and “The Crown Tundra”. Both of which are set in places within the Galar Region that you didn’t have access to before.
Both content packs will feature new storylines, new Pokemon and trainers to meet, and even new Pokemon from past games to catch. Over 200+ Pokemon from past games will be added here. Including some new Galarian versions of the Pokemon. There will also be a new co-op mode where you go into Pokemon dens and capture legendary Pokemon. A new take on the mode that was introduced in Ultra Sun and Moon.
You can watch the full Direct below to get more details, the Expansion Pass will be available for pre-purchase today. The Isle of Armor will be coming out in June, while the Crown Tundra will arrive this fall.
