Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Revealed

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

A Pokemon Presents happened today (the Poke-Nintendo Direct if you will) and a lot of people had expectations both fair and non about what the presentation could have in terms of announcements. There was a lot of rumors that Gen 9 could appear at the event, but then again, you never know. Plus, a lot of people thought Pokemon Legends Arceus could get some DLC announced as the title is already a huge hit. But to the surprise of everyone, the rumors were right, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is coming, and it’s coming this year if things go well.

So, what do we know about Pokemon Scarlet and Violet? A little bit. Aside from the reveal trailer below, the official website for the game revealed key details for those out there who want to know what to expect right now.

For example, we have the three starter Pokemon in Sprigatito, Fuecoco and Quaxly. A grass cat, a fire croc, and a water duck that looks like it came out of DuckTales. Not judging, just saying.

But key among the detail is that of the region (not named yet) will be the next evolution (pun intended) of what was done in Sword/Shield and Arceus. Meaning that it’ll be open-world:

“With these new titles, the Pokémon series takes a new evolutionary step, allowing you to explore freely in a richly expressed open world.

Various towns blend seamlessly into the wilderness with no borders. You’ll be able to see the Pokémon of this region in the skies, in the seas, in the forests, on the streets—all over! You’ll be able to experience the true joy of the Pokémon series—battling against wild Pokémon in order to catch them—now in an open-world game that players of any age can enjoy.”

The game is slated for “Late 2022”, so that could obviously change if delays need to happen. But even if it’s early 2023, Poke-fans are going to have a lot to look forward to, as well as Nintendo Switch owners as a whole.
