Pokemon Go Is Gaining Eighty New Monsters From Gold And Silver

It may have been a while since you’ve picked up Pokemon Go and wandered around the neighborhood, looking for those last few Pokemon you could never find. But it’ll be soon time to party like it’s 2016. One of the most requested features from those still playing the game is about to be added: more monsters. A lot more.

The creatures from the Gold and Silver generation (most of them anyway) are about to be added. You’ll be able to find the three starters (Chikorita, Totodile and Cyndaquil) right away and many others will be available around your region starting later this week — eighty in all. The Johto region added 100 new Pokemon to the lineup back in 2000, and it’s a mystery currently who those 20 unfortunate mons who didn’t make the cut are. Guess you’ll have to hunt to find out.

“Today is a momentous occasion for our team here at Niantic which has been hard at work to deliver these additional Pokemon and build upon the encounter and capture mechanics for our passionate global community of Trainers playing Pokemon Go,” says Niantic CEO John Hanke. “Pokemon Go is a live experience which we’ll be continuing to support and evolve in new and interesting ways for years to come with new gameplay features, in-game and live events, more Pokemon to discover and much more.”

In addition to the new Pokemon, the new update also introduces new Evolution items, expanded outfit and accessory options for Trainer avatars, and two new Berries: the Nanab Berry, which slows a Pokemon’s movement, and the Pinap Berry, which doubles your Candy reward if your next catch is successful.

But WHEN will we be able to trade and battle already? Niantic says they’re working on that feature for their next update. In the meantime, the Pokemon are out there.
