Pharrell Williams LEGO Biopic Film Coming To Theaters In October

Singer/Songwriter Pharrell Williams is getting a biopic movie… in LEGO form. “Piece By Piece”, a collaboration between Focus Features, Williams’ “I Am OTHER” social media venture, and The LEGO Group is set to release in theaters on October 11 this year.

Williams is an accomplished musician who has been rewarded with 13 Grammy Awards and 2 Academy Award nominations by this point, as well as being inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame for his work as The Neptunes. Some of his previous connections to the animation industry include his original song “Happy” (from Despicable Me 2 in 2013, which earned him one of the previously mentioned Academy Award nominations), guest-starring as himself in an episode of The Simpsons from 2015, and narrating the 2018 animated version of The Grinch, from Illumination-Universal Studios.

Described as an “unparalleled motion picture experience”, the movie aims to depict Williams’ life story using LEGO animation. It also promises to transport audiences into a LEGO world where anything is possible. “Piece By Piece” is directed by Academy Award winner Morgan Neville and produced by Neville and Caitrin Rogers, alongside Williams, Mimi Valdés, and Shani Saxon, with Jill Wilfert and Keith Malone executive producing for The LEGO Group.

Comments from Williams: “When I had this crazy vision to tell this story through LEGO bricks, I couldn’t have imagined a better partner than Morgan. He is a legend,” said Williams. “Grateful that Focus wanted to collaborate with us and I’m honored to share this with the world and bring people into my universe. Building with LEGO bricks encourages us to follow our imagination … who would’ve thought that playing with these toys as a kid would evolve into a movie about my life. It’s proof that anyone else can do it too.

Expect more “Piece By Piece” news pieces to come out as well as a possible trailer, as we get closer to its October 11, planned release date.
